Imanda Forest

An initiative to strengthen community forest ownership and biodiversity conservation is focused on the Imanda Forest, one of the largest examples of moist evergreen forest not only in this area but in the country as a whole. This Important Bird Area is not legally protected, and its borders are being encroached by selective logging for construction poles, wild honey collecting, cattle grazing, and invasive vegetation (Lantana camara). Our goal is to bring 400 ha under Community Forest management, and in 2021 key partnerships for future success were established with BirdWatch Zambia, the Forestry Department and the community through the traditional leadership (Village Chiefs).
